 "Great Calculator" 2010-02-12
By J. Woodside (TN)
This calculator is very effective and performs alot of very useful calculations including; matrices, vector calculations, definiete integrals, statistcs-standard deviation and normal distribution. It also has a number of conversions including fractions, unit conversions. I highly recommend it for any high school or college student needing a calculator for a test when graphing calculators are not allowed, this one is the next best option. Not to mention the fact that it is under $20 and completely outperforms the TI30XIIS. Definitely a buy.

By T. Jordan (TX)
I am a die-hard TI 35 guy, from my Navy schools, which strongly recommended them. This Casio is MUCH easier to understand, I love the display method, which mirrors the way our College computer classes display and expect math input. It's my GO TO calculator. I am glad I risked it / bought this one.

"Good Calculator for the FE Exam" 2010-01-03
By R. Altman (Syracuse, NY)
The FE Exam allows you to use three specific types of calculators. Comparing all of the calculators I deducted that this calculator was the best because it has the most available functions in addition to unit conversions; which some of the others don't offer. For a starter/test scientific calculator I don't think you can get more functions with this unless you buy a TI-89 (which I have and is the best calculator I've had so far).

PRO's:

(1.) Lot's of functions including: integration, fraction to decimal, deg to rad, base conversions, factorials, summations, constants, variables, matrices, vectors, complex numbers and variable solver.

(2.) Two Way Power including a battery and solar. Good to have solar especially if you're in a long test.

(3.) Can recall previous calculations by pressing the "replay" button.

(4.) Relatively inexpensive for what you're getting ($18 at Target)

(5.) Keys are big and easy to see.

CON's:

(1.) The manual has no table of contents and isn't in alphabetical order, so it can be difficult to find out how to do something even basic.

(2.) There are no commas given in the answers so either you have to keep it in scientific notation or get ready to count.

Overall, I think it is a good investment for basic math needs but would definitely recommend buying something with graphing/programming capabilities (such as a TI-89) for the more advanced user.

 "fx-115es worth the price" 2009-10-12
By Cran D. Cowan (here)
The new integration algorithm is much better than in previous models. That alone made it worth the purchase price. The intuitive algebraic numeric display is very nice.

The one feature I wish were included would be the capacity to store entered equations and functions as well as variables.

"Very expensive for the lack quality and complicated to use." 2009-12-15
By Mahlers2nd
I will admit up front that I am an HP RPN snob -- I'm 46 years old and have been using RPN since I was a college student. So using ANY algebraic calculator is a bit of a challenge for me.

That said, this calculator is required by nearly every student from 8th grade through college level classes and so I reluctantly plunked down the money and bought one of these for my son. I hate it and I personally won't use it. IF I have to use something that requires algebraic mode I use the HP 35s Scientific Calculator and this review is primarily in contrast to the HP 35S (it would be unfair to compare it to my trusty HP 15Cs since those long went the way of the dodo bird).

The TI is much heavier and bulkier than the HP 35-S. However, being made completely of cheap plastic and not having its own protective case, it is going to get clobbered in my son's backpack -- which usually weighs a good 20 pounds on any given day. But he has to have it so what alternative does he have...

The keys are noisy and spongy compared to the HP (which has a nice soft and crisp "tick" sound).

I have a blue calculator (my son likes blue) and many of the labels are a lighter shade of blue printed on blue plastic -- what human factors genius came up with *that* one. You spend 5 minutes trying to read the button labels just trying to find the function you want.

The TI is lacking many of the native "math" functions which make the HP so attractive. If you are doing statistics, doing permuations and combinations on the HP is a built in function. You can program them on the TI but that takes time and another level of skill that most students won't have.

And while Algebraic calculators usually have the advantage of having the more intuitive "=" sign, this calculator doesn't even have that going for it -- you have to hit just like an RPN calculator. If you want to have an algebraic mode calculator, great. But why make it as counter intuitive as an RPN calculator?

The HP 35S, which does so much more from a functional standpoint, can operate in both RPN and Algebraic mode so you, in essence, get 2 calculators in one and much more flexibility.

The upshot: If you have a kid in school, you probably will have to buy one of these. The schools don't really give you a choice. However, if you are buying this for yourself and want a calculator that is going to last awhile and do what you really need it to do, go for the HP 35S

"Good calculator at a reasonable price." 2010-02-15
By Stephen W. Cawley
I bought 2 of these-one for my 9th grade daughter (Algebra) & one for my 7th grade son (Pre-Algebra). Looks like it'll work for them through Geometry & probably Trigonometry. After that they might need a TI-83 for the graphing capabilities, but given the cost of that & the greater than likely probability of one of them losing or destroying the calculator before then, I figured this was the better option for now. This is definitely a good calculator at a good price.

Other calculators go up to $80 or $90, but the Texas Instruments TI-30X IIS 2-Line Scientific Calculator is a steal almost.  "The "TI-30x"" 2009-12-13

I purchased this on the recommendation of my instructor, because she said that it was simpler to use than the "TI-83/TI-89", N O T! As I write this it sits on a shelf collecting dust - will probably put it in a yard sale - with the new batteries.

I tried several .com's that advertised the ink roller.I would order, buy and have it confirmed.I would wait weeks, and nothing. Then I would call and they would tell me the product was unavailable, and would credit the account.I finally used Office Planet, they again let me order, but informed me the next day that Nukote was not suppling their roller, but suggested one that was comprable.Got the package in a few days and all is well.Perhaps you should check Nukote and suggest an update on products.True, my calculator is old, but still works great.
